Costa Rica, located in Central America, is a Democratic Republic divided into 7 provinces and is a country with no standing army.  It has a privileged location surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. The Caribbean Coast is 160 kms and the Pacific coast 100 kms away from its capital San José, with two highways in good conditions.


Its official language is Spanish and a large portion of the population speaks English. The official currency is the Costa Rican Colon. Its total area is 51,100 km2 and the estimated population is 4,608,426 inhabitants. Regarding time zone, it is UTC -6 and the area calling code is +506.


Because of its geographical position, it has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 22° C (72°F) which can increase in the coastal areas.  There are two seasons, the dry season from December to April and the rainy season from May to November.


There are two main International Airports, Juan Santamaría located in the province of Alajuela which is only 20 minutes away from San José and Daniel Oduber Quirós located in Liberia, Guanacaste.
