Excursions from Golfito or Golfo Dulce


Casa Orquideas – Orchid Gardens & Bird Watching

Duration: 3:00 hrs.
Min: 18 – Max: 30

Marvel at the magnificent variety of bird life in the tropical rainforest on this guided walk. Departing from the pier, you’ll travel by boat through Golfito’s beautiful gulf, the Golfo Dulce, one of the world’s most intense rainforest landscapes.

Perhaps you’ll catch the red flash of scarlet macaws enjoying their noisy freedom along the way! Stop at Casa Orquideas, a beautiful garden brimming with tropical plants and other plant species from around the world, including a medicinal garden. Fill your senses with the beauty and fragrance of this colorful array of blooms, and enjoy many opportunities to glimpse tanagers, flycatchers, swallows, and other small colorful birds, as well as marine species.

You will be transferred back to the ship at the end of your tour.

Recommended gear: sunscreen, hat, camera and binoculars. Bring bottled water and wear bathing suit underneath your cloth.

Notes: Wildlife sightings, although common, are not guaranteed. Wet landing operation.

Piedras Blancas National Park and Rainforest Hike

Duration: 3:00 hrs.

The Piedras Blancas National Park, located along Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast just outside the town of Golfito, protects over 34,595 acres (14,000 hectares) of evergreen primary forest and a great number of indigenous plants and wildlife.

Due to the abundant fruits, the tremendous diversity of Piedras Blancas National Park and 4 eco systems in a close proximity, a wide range of birds can be spotted on any given day.

The primary rainforest supports hundreds of different species of birds, including the Fiery-billed Aracari and the Blue-crowned Motmot as well as the endangered Scarlet Macaws, a variety of trogons and many, many more. Bring your field guide and binoculars and you will absolutely be delighted by the diversity.

Recommended gear: Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, bug repellent, binoculars, hiking shoes.

Tour Operator Notes for guests: While hiking along the trails you’ll find yourself crossing slippery or sloping terrain. Tour Includes: Park fees transportation, naturalist guide, fruits, and natural juices and water.


Yoga Session & Paddle Board at Playa Cativo


Duration: 3:00 hrs.
Min: 4 – Max: 8 ( Per departure )

At Playa Cativo Lodge we strive to provide you a pleasant, interesting, fun, meaningful and secure tour at our 1000 acre rainforest private reserve.

Once we arrive at Playa Cativo, you will be greet meet by our staff at our beach by wet landing. Then our yoga session will start at nice a beachfront platform surrounded by our peaceful rainforest. After this great experience , a delicious breakfast will be served at our restaurant El Gavilan.

Then is time for our Stand Up Paddle Board ( SUP) tour along Cativo Bay.

At the end of our SUP, you will be transferred back to your ship.

Recommended gear: Wear sandals or beach shoes for your arrival and departure at the beach. Dress comfortable and appropriate to walk and do your yoga session. A refillable water bottle, Sun screen, hat or cap (you might need it while doing SUP). Camera (better if water proof). For the Stand Up Paddle boarding

you’ll need at least: bathing suit, a towel, water resistant sun screen and a bag to carry your wet items

Dolphin Watch & Gulf Eco-Tour

This great excursion finds the dolphins over 90% of the time. Come and enjoy a fun, informative, 25+ mile guided tour as the Golfo Dulce (‘Sweet Gulf’) serves up its many magical wonders. Whales, dolphins, manta rays, whale sharks, sea turtles, schooling fish, and sea birds—all these have been seen by our guests. Our tour boats are equipped with quiet, ecofriendly four stroke motors and a full-canopy sun top for your comfort and protection. After a short crossing, you will experience the Gulf’s lush, rugged

Eastern Shore, up close and personal to “one of the world’s three tropical fjords.” Along with your Dolphin Cruise and informative eco-tour, your experienced and licensed Captain and (English speaking) Guide will offer swimming, snorkeling and plane boarding when and where conditions permit.

And when you return to the boat, you can enjoy a fresh water rinse and fresh fruit.
